“My name is Robb Kelly and I am a recovered alcoholic/addict. Today I am grateful to be alive – and I mean grateful. There was a time I wanted to die, and on several occasions I nearly did. I was suffering from untreated alcoholism and drug addiction; so far gone that all the medical fraternity in Great Britain had given up on me, they told me I was going to die in less than 3 weeks... During my addiction I had lost everything I once had. I was alone, destitute, and homeless, this was the end of my life and I
knew and accepted it. I wanted to die; it was better than the living hell I was going through, much better…
Addiction had taken me from being a very successful member of society with a $15 million business, lovely wife, 2 children I adored and a lifestyle envied by most, to losing everything I had ever known. I was at the crossroads of life, the jumping off stage, I had nothing, not even my self-respect... I had to die… I couldn’t live with alcohol and I couldn’t live without it... Unless you have suffered with addiction you will never know the decisions I made or the torment it caused. The two most precious things in my life were my children - I loved them so much. Yet I chose alcohol and drugs over them, what sort of man would do that, what sort of person would choose over their own children? That sort of person was who I was, a person suffering from untreated alcoholism and drug addiction, a person who was insane with this illness, a person who was crushed physically and mentally… I had to learn the hard way, that there are no exceptions to the rule, if you are an alcoholic/addict then you have got three choices: (1) you seek proper help, (2) you end up in jail, or (3) you die.
I finally decided to seek help, to get my life back together; after all, I was worth more than this, surely. I tried self-help groups but they did nothing for me and the success rate is less that 2%... I wanted to get better, to live. Now that I have, now that I know how to arrest this disease, and overcome it, I devote my life to helping other people who are afflicted with this disease. I guarantee you can recover, I promise you a better life without drink/drugs...”
